Great Gatsby-Auditions

BATS Theatre Company Inc is heading into the new 20’s, with a production set in the Roaring 20’s, The Great Gatsby.

WHEN: Monday 13th January and Thursday 16th January 2020

7:30pm-9:30pm

WHERE: The Buderim War Memorial Hall

Please note rehearsals for this production will be Monday and Thursday nights 7:30-9:30pm at the Buderim War Memorial Hall. Production season dates are 27th, 28th March and 3rd and 4th April at 7:30pm with additional performances on the 28th March and 4th April at 2pm.

The audition will consist of cold reading and improvisation based on characters and themes. There will be a brief familiarization of the play and characters prior to audition.

CHARACTERS:

Nick Carraway– male 25-45 

Nick is a young man from Minnesota.  Honest, tolerant, and inclined to reserve judgement.

Tom Buchanan – male 25-45

Daisy’s immensely wealthy husband, an arrogant, hypocritical bully.  His social attitudes are laced with racism and sexism. 

Daisy Buchanan – female 20-35

Nick’s cousin, and the woman Gatsby loves.   A beautiful socialite, she is sardonic and somewhat cynical, and behaves superficially to mask her pain at her husband’s constant infidelity.

Jordan Baker – female 20-30 

Daisy’s friend, a woman with whom Nick becomes romantically involved. A competitive golfer, Jordan represents one of the “new women” of the 1920’s—cynical, boyish, and self-centered.

George Wilson – male 35-50

Myrtle’s husband, the lifeless, exhausted owner of a run-down auto shop. 

Myrtle Wilson – female 20-35

Tom’s lover, Myrtle possesses a fierce vitality and desperately looks for a way to improve her situation.

Owl Eyes – male 40 + 

The eccentric, bespectacled drunk whom Nick meets at the first party he attends at Gatsby’s mansion.

Meyer Wolfshiem – male 50 +

Gatsby’s friend, a prominent figure in organised crime.

Jay Gatsby – male 25-45

The title character and protagonist, Gatsby is a fabulously wealthy young man living in a Gothic mansion in West Egg who is famous for the lavish parties he throws every Saturday night, but no one knows where he comes from, what he does, or how he made his fortune.

There are also other female ensemble parts of various ages.
